This custom rifle is everything you need in a do-it-all around-the-world long range hunting rifle. No expense was spared or detail overlooked. Every component is from a premium precision rifle component manufacturer and all made in the USA. Defiance, Bartlein, Manners, Hawkins, Triggertech–all the best names. The rifle is used in excellent like new condition, as the pictures demonstrate. This is my personal rifle, for which I hand selected every part. I can attest to the rifle’s past use. The rifle has a very low round count. There is a total of 40 rounds down the barrel according to the barrel log, this includes 20 rounds of Federal factory ammo used during the meticulous break-in process. All handloads have been very mild, using the midpoint in the Berger reloading manual. The rifle has never been taken on a hunt, only shot on a flat range off the bench. The rifle was built and purchased last summer of 2021. Complete specs are below.
The 300 Winchester Magnum is an extremely capable, well-rounded, and versatile cartridge. Oftentimes most production rifle manufacturers choose slower rifling twist rates, have excessively long barels, use the loose SAAMI chamber, and invariably limit the cartridge’s capability by contraining the cartridge overall length to SAAMI specs. All of this adds up to hampering the ability to load modern heavy-for-caliber high BC bullets, the kind you need for shooting long range and really unlocking the capability of the 300 Win Mag. This rifle solves all of this with a specific custom chamber, faster twist Bartlein barrel, Wyatt’s extended box affording plenty of room to load longer bullets, and a shorter length threaded barrel for suppressor use.
Why not 300 PRC? In my case I chose the Win Mag because I wanted to ensure a standard length action and also have the flexibility to draw upon the huge selection of factory ammo, which is sometimes critical on farflung hunts. This rifle has a custom cut chamber, specs below, for the very highly regarded 215 Berger Hybrid bullet. This chamber will shoot bullets with other profiles just fine as well, including Hammers, Hornadys, Barnes, Sierra, etc.
Also includes a spare fully nitrided bolt with a standard (non-magnum) bolt face, ordered directly from Defiance for this action. The bolt is brand new and unused. I bought the spare bolt in case in the future I wanted to order a prefit barrel, for instance in 280 Ackley or another standard long action cartridge. Also included is a custom modified case from Copper Creek, imprinted for this chamber, for measuring cartridge overall length (COAL).
Finally–Why am I selling this rifle? I purchasd the rifle to go on a western elk hunt. The hunt was cancelled last year, and the circumstances in my life have changed such that I do not have time to use this rifle, much less go on another western hunt. There is zero point in this rifle being a safe queen. It is like a thoroughbred horse that needs to be put to work. Better to be regularly enjoyed and really stretched by someone else. I have well over $5500 in this rifle in components and build costs. Avoid the wait for a custom build and start preparing now for fall 2022 hunts!
